Hamningberg has one of Finnmarks oldest fihermans settlements with buildings dating back to early 1900`.
This is allso one of very few villages that was not set fire to during the retreat of German troops in the spring of -44, during worldwar two.
Even though Hamningberg is part of Batsfjord minicipality, the village does not have connection by road to the rest of the minicipality. The road you have to travel goes through five other minicipalities to get to Batsfjord, the municipality center. Thats allmost the entire Varanger peninsula. Fastest way to get there is by boat.
